bella's mittens

new (free) design available on the sidebar - or here (pdf download). it's a first draft - need to take some decent photos in sunlight after the mitts are fully dry.

these were inspired by mittens kristen stewart wears as bella in the movie twilight. yeah, admit it - you're obsessed too!

I just love your mittens, they are my next project.

Beautiful gloves, I mean really beautiful! I've officially lost my cool 'tween-thirty something status 'cause I haven't seen the movie yet. But in my defense it's not appropriate for my 2 year old. Or is it...?

you rock!!

I can't believe how fast you got this done already, and the pattern posted too!! I bet these are going to get queued on Ravelry like hotcakes...

Oh yes I'm a wee bit obsessed!
Just saw the movie yesterday and thought it was wonderful! Throughly enjoyed it and hope the sequel is just as good.
Thanks for this great pattern.
I am so making these :)

Yes! I was waiting for these to be made! Thanks for sharing the pattern. :)

A friend just sent me a link to your site, and let me say, I just love it!!
I am working on the Bella mittens, and am close to the right/left gusset. This is the first time I have made mittens, so forgive me, but I can't figure out where the thumb hole is. I understand I need to use the eleven stiches around the thumb hole to knit the thumb cover itself. But I just can't figure out in the instructions where that hole is. I would hate to just keep knitting and mess the whole project up.

I didn't even like the movie but I *loved* the mittens she wore. Thanks for the pattern, I'll make myself a pair once I'm done with my Christmas knitting.

This is PERFECT!! Thank you so much! All I could find were fingerless gloves in a ribbed pattern and that SO was not what she wore. This is great! I'm so excited! Thanks a lot!

The actual mittens are from a lovely lady named Ruth Cross at www.ruthcross.com. I just emailed her and she is going to start producing them again for twilighters. She also does fingerless and capped styles in several colours. Check out her website and email her, tell her you want the same as 'Vanessa' if you wish to order identical ones.

Dear FANS OF BELLAS MITTENS EVERYWHERE,

WE ARE THE MAKERS OF HER MITTENS!!! For winter 2007 we supplied this long cabled mitten to Aubergine of Portland which is where the Twilight costume designer Wendy Chuck found them.

We have only just realised how many new fans there are and especially for YOU we have re-issued these mittens which are available to order at http://www.ruthcross.com/acatalog/copy_of_Button_Collar.html. Each pair is knitted by hand in the UK using supersoft Scottish lambs wool by our knit company RUTH CROSS.

We are extremely flattered at the lengths you have all gone to to find (and in some cases make) these so we have included a detailed picture on the site so you can get a good view of the original pair designed and made by us.

Best wishes Ruth and the team!

Thank you so much for the pattern!! I have found a couple others, but none that were free, or looked quite right. I was quite intrigued by Bella's mittens in the movie, and I kept seeing them on sale at Etsy.com (a tip for all those people who really want a pair, but can't knit!) and then I began to really want a pair of mittens for myself. I wasn't sure I had it in me to knit mittens, but I just finished my left one, and it looks amazing!! Your pattern was very clear and precise, and with a little bit of help from online resources, it worked just fine for my first mitten project. A word to those of you with smaller hands: I made my mitten with cascade 220 on size 6 needles, and they turned out utterly perfect for my smaller-sized hands, no blocking required! I can't wait to start on the next one!

Melly said...

Just marvelous! You really rock!
I have just finished the mittens for my daughter and she loves them!
The only thing I have changed (I looked at the picture at Ruth Cross's page): I made the palm side of the mittens in moss-stitch.
If you wish you could have a look at them on my blog.
Thanks so much for sharing the pattern! It's very nicely written and supereasy to follow! Great work!
love and hugs
Melly

Great, easy pattern.

I have just finished knitting five pair of these delightful mittens. My daughter forwarded this pattern to me so that I could provide her with these handknit gifts for her friends who love the movie. As a "german style" knitter, it only took a few days to knit these mittens and I thank you for the excellent directions. Thank you for your talent and for sharing this pattern......

You're really good at knitting. I tried the pattern but they came out tight and not looking as good as yours. do you know why???? I also have a random question. do you think you could find out the pattern for these. you would get alot of people visiting your site becuase you can't find a pattern like it.

Here's the website, or one of them

My confusion with the pattern is this:

You make it sounds like you only need to do magic loop at the beginning, but all the magic loop info I find makes it seem like something continuous.

Just saw the movie this weekend on Blu-ray and I fell in love with Bella's mittens (even though it's almost summer!)
Thank you so much for sharing your pattern, I can't wait to get them knitted up!

Thank you so much for sharing your pattern. I decided to knit these for my daughter for her birthday gift. I made one today. It's a fun pattern to knit and I love the way it looks. I think she'll really love them. It seems fans are paying quite a bit for the original mittens. Wow!

I just love Bella's mittens! I just love twilight and I am not a big mitten fan but when I saw hers I just had to have them!! Now I will!!

I know how to knit and all so I went out and got me some yarn to make a pair for myself since I am poor. I am making them from red heart Grey Heather yarn. It has enough in on skein for the pair. This will be a fun project and perfect since the cold weather is coming. I really can't afford the wool so I'll just use red heart yarn. Thank you soo much for posting this pattern!! it is a huge help!!!!
